Top 10 most useful WordPress plugins 2020

We build several WordPress pages a month. We are constantly testing different plugins and themes to find the best WordPress plugins for our customers. So here are what we think are the most useful WordPress plugins we use.

Best WordPress plugins

Let's start with page/theme builders first. We've tried almost all of them and I'm sure many people would expect us to say that Elementor is the best builder at the moment. For our purposes, however, Elementor is by no means a sensible page builder.

1. Oxygen Builder

Oxygen Builder is our choice when it comes to WordPress page builders. Elementor, Beaver, Divi and others are aimed more at those whose HTML and CSS skills are not yet very advanced. Oxygen Builder is aimed more at professionals and provides better tools for those who can handle HTML and CSS code. The source code published by Oxygen is also much cleaner and pages built with Oxygen are quite a bit faster than those built with, for example, Div. Read our Oxygen Builder introduction

2. SEOPress or RankMath

In our opinion, the best search engine optimization WordPress plugins are SEOPress, as well as Rank Math. Rank Math is free, so if you are looking for a free search engine matching add-on then we recommend Rank Math. However, we ourselves choose SEOPress more often than Rank Math. The reason for this is a better experience with updates and customer service. SEOPress is also fully compatible with Oxygen Builder.

We do not recommend the Yoast SEO plugin. All Yoast's paid features are available in Rank Math for free or in the SEOPress Pro package purchased together. Yoast doesn't offer anything that others don't offer at a lower price.

3. ShortPixel Image Optimizer

Fast page loading is even more important this year. Indolent users are immediately removed from slow pages. One of the biggest slowdowns in page loading is large images. So it's a good idea to make sure that the images you upload to your website are optimised. ShortPixel provides a good tool to solve this problem. The add-on compresses the images so that. that the image quality is not affected much, but the image size is reduced.

Smaller images -> faster pages.

4. WP Mail SMTP

Is there a problem sending emails in WordPress contact forms? Use the WP Mail SMTP add-on to fix this. The add-on allows emails to be forwarded via the SMTP server. This significantly increases the success rate of sending messages. The plugin also allows you to easily connect your Gmail or G Suite account to WordPress, for example.

5. Insert Headers and Footers

WordPress plugins that make it much easier to develop your pages. The Insert Header and Footer plugin, as its name suggests, helps you insert code inside the <header> and <footer> tags of your website. Adding codes for different analytics tools makes more sense.

6. Code Snippets

Another WordPress plugin that really makes development much easier is Code Snippets. With this add-on you can run custom PHP code snippets under any conditions, anywhere. No more need to add code to your functions.php file, you can manage them directly from the Code Snippets plugin. This add-on is definitely one of the most used add-ons we use.

7. Formidable Forms

The holiday builder WordPress plugins are for the most part very similar. The interface is just slightly different. But if you want to build more complex forms then we recommend you check outthe Formidable Forms subsection . In the Pro version, our absolute favourite is the"Repeater" feature. It can be used to build very complex forms with repetitive sections.

8. Asset CleanUp Pro: Page Speed Booster

WordPress plug-ins that speed up page loading. What if you took a new approach to optimising page load speed? With Asset CleanUp Pro: Page Speed Booster, you can remove unnecessary CSS and JS files from various pages. So you prevent unnecessary code downloads on pages where they don't need to be downloaded. For example, you can disable the code of your contact form from loading on pages where the form is not displayed.

9. UpdraftPlus

Remember to back up your WordPress website. We often do this with the UpdraftPlus add-on, because it allows us to back up on a scheduled basis to our Google Drive. UpdraftPlus + G Suite Business is a great combination if you have multiple pages to manage.

10. Disable Comments

Disable Comments is a very simple add-on that disables comments. If you have no need for WordPress comments, please disable them completely.
